Changing Minds, Changing Lives – Community Roadshows

28/08/2007

Gloucestershire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is taking part in two community roadshows in Gloucester and Cheltenham over the next two weeks. The Trust is taking this opportunity to challenge the stigma associated with mental illness and to promote NHS Foundation Trust membership to the local people of Gloucestershire through the use of a videowall organised in collaboration with LBTV

The first event is taking place in the Eastgate Mall, Gloucester from Monday 3rd September to Sunday 9th September.

The second event is taking place in the Regent Arcade Centre, Cheltenham, from Monday 10th September to Sunday 16th September.

The focal point of the roadshow will be a videowall featuring videos from public and voluntary sectors in Gloucestershire, including the Partnership Trust. Two videos will be screened from the Partnership Trust – one encouraging local people to join us as members of the Trust, and one about challenging the stigma surrounding mental illness – “Changing Minds, Changing Lives”.

Shaun Clee, Chief Executive said “Although one in four of us will experience some kind of mental health problem in any one year, there is still a lot of stigma surrounding mental illness. Becoming a foundation trust is a fantastic opportunity to work together to combat this stigma, which will make it easier for people to come forward if they have a problem and seek the help they need. We’d like to encourage local people to join us and make a real difference to the future of mental health, substance misuse and learning disability services in the area.”

Gloucestershire Partnership NHS is proud to be a Foundation Trust and wants to encourage local people to become members of the Trust and have a say in how local services are delivered. Membership forms and information will be available at the roadshows.

Joining the Foundation Trust is easy and costs nothing. You will have the opportunity to help shape our services for the future and you will receive regular information about the Trust and our services. You don’t need any special skills or experience and there is no minimum time commitment. You just need to be interested in our services and the people we care for. Anyone 16 years or over living in Gloucestershire can became a member of Gloucestershire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
