A Strong Foundation for Mental Health - Open Event

23/05/2007

One in four of us experience mental health problems at some stage in our lives – so mental health services are important to us all.   Now there is an unprecedented opportunity for people across Gloucestershire to find out more about the range of services available and plans for the future.

Gloucestershire Partnership NHS Trust, which provides mental health, substance misuse and developmental disability services throughout the county, is to hold a special Open Event for the public.  It is being staged on Thursday 31st May at Pittville Pump Room in Cheltenham.   People are welcome to drop in at any time between 1.30 and 7pm.

The Trust has applied to become an NHS Foundation Trust and, if successful, this will happen from the beginning of July.  All are welcome to come along to the Open Event and find out why the Partnership Trust wants Foundation Trust status and what it will mean for local services.  We believe becoming a Foundation Trust will mean we are more accountable and in a better position to develop services that meet the specific needs of our communities.

At the Open Event you will be able to meet members of the Trust Board, including the Chairman Robert Maxwell and new Chief Executive Shaun Clee, put your questions to them and give your own views.  You can find out how to become a Member of the new Foundation Trust yourself, and what this involves, and meet some of our prospective Governors.

At the Open Event there will also be a chance to talk with frontline staff about the range of services they provide.  These include caring for people at home or in the community, therapies on hospital wards and services for older people, those of working age, children and adolescents and people with a learning disability.

Representatives of community treatment teams, the Black Mental Health Team, the Substance Misuse Service and carers’ support groups will be among those also available to explain the work they do,  together with  Patient Advice and Liaison Services, the Patient and Public Involvement Forum, the Alzheimer’s  Society and Gloucestershire County Council.

Details of the Open Event programme can be found on the Gloucestershire Partnership Trust website www.partnershiptrust.org.uk.
