Gloucestershire Occupational Therapists Celebrate International Recognition
01/11/2007
The practice success of occupational therapists in our local mental health
services has been acknowledged by an internationally acclaimed expert. Professor
Gary Kielhofner is committed to enabling people who experience illness or disability
to live full, active and healthy lives within their local communities. Professor
Kielhofner has recently published a text book to acknowledge best practice.
It features the work of many occupational therapists from the Gloucestershire
Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Speaking of the contribution Professor Kielhofner said “I have been impressed
that occupational therapists in Gloucestershire have worked with academics
like me and my colleague Dr Kirsty Forsyth to develop what can be offered to
local people. There are several examples in the book which outline how people
in Gloucestershire have been very well supported with occupational therapy
expertise to assist with the recovery of their mental health”.
Leading the development locally, Jane Melton, Consultant Occupational Therapist said; “This is a positive recognition of ongoing hard work by all our occupational therapy staff over a number of years. We have enhanced our practice to make sure that we make every effort to understand how a person’s experience of mental illness impacts upon their ability to recovery ordinary lives within the communities of Gloucestershire. Our goal is to continue to work with our service users to ensure that people have opportunities to take part in their day to day interests”.
