Substance Misuse

01/05/2007

People in Gloucestershire with drug and alcohol problems will be the first in the UK to benefit from a different approach to treatment.

Staff from Gloucestershire Partnership NHS Trust have completed training in a therapy called Community Reinforcement Approach. This is a short-term treatment aiming to help the patient develop a healthy lifestyle in which drugs and/or alcohol become less important and incompatible with their new life. It also involves the patient developing skills in problem-solving, communication and seeking a job. The Gloucestershire Substance Misuse Service is the first in the country to be trained in this type of therapy.

On Tuesday 1st May staff are being presented with certificates to mark successful completion of their training.
