Carers Information Pack
Who is the pack for?
The Information pack is for relatives, partners or friends who provide support to people with mental illness.
Why has it been developed?
People caring for someone with mental illness rarely consider themselves to be carers. This often means that they do not receive or ask for the help and support they need.
Carers are in fact people who out of a sense of love, duty and compassion, struggle to live their own lives and at the same time do their best to help a family member of friend.
People who care for someone with mental illness play a valuable role in promoting their recovery.
One of the things expressed constantly by carers is that information to support them in their caring role is not easily available. This information pack has been written in consulation with trust staff, local carers and carers groups to act as a guide to services provided by Gloucestershire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to people with mental illness and to provide carers with the information they need to support them in their caring role. The pack contains information on mental illnesses and treatments, carers assessments and benefits and where to go for further help.

- Go to www.gripinitiative.org.uk to read about the experiences of Sharon, Jane and Alison who care for their sons who are currently recovering from first episode psychosis. They together with members of the GRIP (Gloucestershire Recovery in Psychosis) Team have complied a range of information for carers that compliments the information contained on this site.k
