Equality and Diversity
Equality and Diversity
The Trust is committed to:
- to delivering services equally and recognise the different and diverse needs of the community it serves
- to build a workforce that is valued and whose diversity reflects the communities it serves, enabling the health community to deliver the best possible healthcare services.
The way it goes about putting these into practice is four fold:
- to be clear of its goals and how it will achieve these through the agreement of the Trust's Diversity and Equality Strategy and Action plan ( November 2004)
- to publish its Race Equalities Scheme ( updated in May 2006)
- to establish a Diversity Steering Group to oversee and steer the Trust's work
- to support a Race Awareness Staff Group who will provide a support network and contribute to a culture that promotes and values diversity.
The Trust's current priorities are:
- embedding the new age legislation into employment practices - developing a disability equality scheme
- developing an action plan to address the requirements of the Equality Act.
- undertake equalities impact assessments on all its polices and procedures.
Race Awareness Staff Group
The Race Awareness Staff Group was established in 2002, and was formed in order that adequate time and resources could be made available to ensure that the Trust as a significant employer in the community is both fulfilling its obligations and aspirations on the equality and diversity premise.
The group is run by its staff along the lines of a Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) support network. It aims to provide a support for all staff of an ethnic background on related issues as well as providing a useful consultation forum for the Trust.
If you require any further information on the group or you would like to participate as a member you can do so by contacting any of the following:
